Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have whooping cough and was getting better until this weekend when it flared up badly. I have already been through three courses of antibiotics (Zithromax, amoxicillin, and levoxothin) and it seems to be getting worse instead of better. I thought I had it licked a few weeks back after starting the Levoxithin and Prednisone but after the Prednisone was gone it cam right back. What now?
As per my clinical experience, the whooping cough primary management is symptomatic. - Discuss the need of DPaT vaccine with your primary care - Antibiotics as per the clinician choice - Bronchi dilator to keep the airway patency - Systemic steroids to reduce the underlying inflammation - Multi vitamins to boost immunity - Cough formulations as dextromethorphan, codeine or others
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
