Suggest Treatment For Red And Swollen Bump On The Lips

I had stiches in my lower lip after a car accident. The lip started to look better, however there is a big bump inside where the stitches were. It started to look better, but now the bump isvery red and swollen. Should I be concerned and what is the bump?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that the bump at the site of lip injury is a Hematoma that has occurred secondary to injury leading to accumulation of blood into the soft tissues from the traumatized or broken blood vessels..

As it has turned red and swollen it can be probably due to infection and inflammation at the site of stitches..

I would suggest you to ap a combination of Steroid and antibiotic ointment over it..
Do cool compresses..

In case if it does not improve in 3 -4 days consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have red and swollen bump on the lips at stitches location which is due to soft tissue slough and purulent exudate. Nothing to be panic, it is common after surgery.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to maintain proper oral hygiene. Take tab riboflavin one tab daily as it could be due to deficiency of riboflavin as well. Apply Kenacort ointment for faster healing. You should avoid hot and spicy food. You should consult dentist or oral physician once and get it examined. Doctor examine the wound physically wash it with betadine and prescribe antibiotics.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
