Suggest Treatment For Red Bump At The Back Of The Head

I just got home from work and my son has a bump on the back of his head. Its red and maybe 3/4 the size of a small bouncy ball. He was with his father today who said he didnt hit his head that he knew of. His sisters said he didn t get hurt, no crying. He said he hit his head on a bike then he said the cement. He s only 4 so I don t know. What worries me is that it doesn t seem to hurt him when I push on it

Hi,

Red bump seems most likely to be traumatic origin. Please don't get panicked and just observe. Please measure the size of the bump and keep checking if it's increasing or decreasing in size. Also, monitor the decrease or increase in redness of bump and also enquire for pain. In my practice, I have seen so many kids with such bumps on scalp and they regressed with time. Just observe and no need of any medication right now.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

Your son aged 4 years has suddenly developed a red bump at the back of the head. It does not hurt him when you push on it. May be he hit his head somewhere. You can initially apply ointment Thrombophob on the area affected, it will help to reduce inflammation and any blood clot under the skin. If it is reducing, continue to apply. But if it does not it may be a matter of concern. If the bump is due to a skin condition, it is given conservative treatment.

If the bump is due to a head or bone injury, depending on the type of injury and severity it is treated. If the bump is caused by a tumor, it needs to be evaluated before treatment. Lumps on the back of the head are commonly caused due to cyst, swollen gland, skin tag, etc. You are suggested to get your son clinically examined by a GP or pediatrics, get X-ray and other required tests done to stay on the safer side. He will be treated accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
