Suggest Treatment For Red Insect Bitten Area On Groin
I noticed a small red area on my groin when I got out of the shower this morning. Upon closer look a tick type of insect had bitten me and was still attached to my groin. I pulled the tick out and applied some isopropyl achohol and a cortisone ointment to the wound. As of tonight I am not in any pain and the area about half the size of a penny still shows as red. Concerned about lyme and other tick born diseases and wonder if I should seek medical assistance.
If I was your treating doctor I would recommend you to apply a topical steroid and antibiotic combination like Neosporin ointment and Cortisone cream on the affected areas twice daily and take anti-histaminic like tablet Cetirizine for 5-7 days.
If the reaction doesn't show improvement in 2-3 days you may require a short course of oral steroids. Steroids are prescription drugs and you need to see the doctor in person to get them. Besides this, wash the area with plain water only, no need to use soap, peroxide or cold compresses.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
