Suggest Treatment For Red Itchy Rashes On Arms

Hi Dr., my son has a red rash on both wrists and about 4 in. up his arm on the thumb side, both arms. It doesn't peel, is not shiny, but is hard to touch. Heat makes it worse and it itches, but he doesn't scratch because then it will get worse. I saw a picture of a rash on a lower leg that was portrayed as a precursor to heart attack. He is 27 yrs. Any ideas?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of red itchy rashes on arms which seems to be due to contact dermatitis . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like allergic reaction,psoriasis , skin infection, fungal infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to keep your skin clean and dry , protect it from sun. Avoid touching or pricking rashes. If condition doesn't get well then consult dermatologist for proper examination. Doctor may order certain test like skin patch test , blood test , allergy test and take history to rule out the side effects of certain drug . Doctor may prescribe immunosuppressants along with anti inflammatory and corticosteroid ointment . Doctor may also prescribe antifungal like fluconazole or anti bacterial like clindamycin. You should apply only petroleum jelly and take antihistamine like benadryl twice a day.
