Suggest Treatment For Red Rashes On The Legs

My 84 year old mother s right foot has swollen to more than twice its normal size and she has a red rash that has traveled up both her legs, onto her arms and back. She is a polio survivor and the swollen foot is her crippled foot. The foot is painful but the rash does not bother her. The doctor took some blood for lab test that came back normal and a Doppler ultrasound was conducted and ruled out a clot in her leg. The foot keeps swelling and the rash spreading but no one can figure out why.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I do understand your pain and discomfort. I have seen many cases with similar complaints. Please find my advice below:

1) Do a full blood count with differential

2) Do FBS & TSH test

3) Do ECG & ECHO

4) Do liver function test

5) Tell your local doctor to do a physical exam to rule out DVT [Homans sign and D-Dimer Test]

I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to me. Wishing you all the best.

Thanks,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
