Suggest Treatment For Red Spot On Calf After Injury

My husband had a very heavy piece of furniture fall on his inner calf a month ago. It is now a purplish red spot the size of a soft ball and very hard like a callous. He also can not really feel when the spot is being touched. What is It and will it go away on its own?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain a purplish red spot on the calf after injury along with swelling occurs due to trauma to the soft tissues leading to inflammation along with rupture of the small blood vessels leading to accumulation of blood into the soft tissues leading to bruising and formation of Hematoma due to which there is a purple-red appearance..

The swelling occurs due to accumulation of inflammatory cells in the area of injury as well as hypertrophy of fibrous tissue and exudation of inflammatory fluid and hematoma all lead to swelling in the injured area..
At times the hematoma becomes localized and thus a hard lump is formed..

The numbness of the can be due to inflammation and swelling but at times if there is injury to the nerve fibres in the traumatized area can lead to numbness in the area..
The numbness caused due to injury can take a longer time which cannot be predicted and can take from weeks to months and even years to recover to the normal function but it almost recovers with complete sensations..

I would suggest you to do alternate warm and cold compresses in the injured area..

Apply thrombophob gel as it contains Heparin sodium and it helps in faster disruption of the hematoma..

In case of pain OTC painkiller like Ibuprofen can be taken..

It is an inflammatory lesion and will gradually heal by first the bruising and discolouration will fade followed by reduction in size of lump..

Hope this information helps..
