Suggest Treatment For Redness And Inflammation On The Penis

Hello Me and my boyfriend have been having sex regularly. I m very sensitive to latex so I had a doctor prescribe me medicine to heal. This was about a year ago. Today I noticed some things with my penis. It seems whenever I m erect towards the tip it gets real red and appears inflamed. I was concerned of a std but got check and I m clear. I was told to drink more water. I m afraid even though u have no bad symptoms. I pee regular and ejuclate often with no problems. It s no bumps as well it just seems like toward the head it gets red and look very inflamed. It doesn t hurt and the skin is so tender I can seem to see my tiny veins towards the top. Since I relazied about a week ago I haven t had any sex. I also changed soaps and lotions. Please help I m afraid maybe it s a tear but I don t want to mess it up and it s hard to go to a doctor with knowing the severity. Thank u Neko

Hello,

You are suffering from redness and inflammation on the penis. You had STD tests done and are clear. You are having discomfort. You are advised to avoid sex for a couple of days, no self pleasure. Give time to heal. Since your STD tests are clear, it could be balanitis. Take care of your hygiene. You can get tested for chlamydia or gonorrhea after a couple of days if the symptoms persist.

If the tests are positive you may need to be treated with antibiotics like doxycycline or azithromycin. Presently you can apply ointment Soframycin for relief. If its itching, applying a thin layer of hydrocortisone ointment will help. If its fungal infection then apply ointment clotrimazole. Get clinically examined by a Urologist. Get few blood tests done.

Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected. You will be treated with medicines. If the foreskin is affected then your treating doctor may recommend surgery (circumcision). Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
