Suggest Treatment For Redness On Face And Swollen Eyes

My 11 months old son has had an allergic reaction earlier on. We went to A&E since his face was all red and his eyes were swollen. He kept on rubbing them and wouldn t settle. We were advised to give him piriton this evening and tomorrow morning and evening. Unfortunately, the only piriton we found in the shop is for 6 year old children. Would it be ok for us to use? If so, what dosage? Thank you in advance

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Piriton (or chlorpheniramine, as it is also known as) is typically not given to children under 2 years, but if it is, I would give the small dose recommended for 2 year olds, which is 1mg, and I would only give that every 6 hours. If you can just give 0.5mg, that might be even better, and you could give that every 4 hours.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
