Suggest Treatment For Respiratory Infection Despite Taking Doxycycline

I went to a clinic five days ago with very raw, swollen throat and respiratory symptoms, was told it was probably virus, a cold, take Mucenix. Also given a prescription for doxycycline hyclate 100 to hold in case I didn t get better. Very little mucus, not much better, but I am now barking like a dog. Not an abuser of antibiotics, only once in the last 25 years, but ready to head for pharmacy! Yes?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You may be suffering from acute laryngitis with pharyngitis with lower respiratory tract infection.

Avoid spicy food and alcohol avoid smoking and alcohol.

Use water vapor inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days.

Use tablet Azithromycine.

If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
