Suggest Treatment For Ruptured Disc

Six months ago I suffered a ruptured disc which put pressure on the sciatic nerve. Since then I have been unable to walk more than a few steps without extreme pain. Prev I was very active walking 6klms a day now I can only do back exercises and am on Brufen - how long do I have to wait before it gets better??
