Suggest Treatment For Scalp Allergy Caused By Hair Dye

I dyed my hair 3 days ago. I understand that I more then likely have a reaction to PPD. Soars on head, extreme itching./burning, and my forehead and sides of face started swelling yesterday and today I woke up in great pain with my lymph nodes all swollen from the bottom of my neck up into behind the ear. What do I need to do? The swelling in neck is painful

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

Allergic contact dermatitis to the allergens present in hair dye, presents as scalp itching, oozing involving the scalp and extending to the margins i.e the forehead, front and behind the ears and neck etc.

If I was the treating doctor I would have started you on oral steroids for a week. They bring about the most rapid relief. Along with oral steroids, topical steroid lotion can be used locally twice daily for a week or so.

A course of oral antibiotics may also be required if there is a secondary bacterial infection.

An OTC antihistamine e.g cetrizine once daily for symptomatic itch relef is advisable.
