Hi Donna,

You are on Geodon(zyprasidone) and lexapro(escitalopram).
Both are good medicines without significant side effects.

Geodon specifically used in schizophrenia when weight gain is concerned. Aripiprazole(abilify) is the only drug other than geodon which do not cause weight gain.

So if your concern is your gaining weight and your family history of diabetic, you should concentrate more on lifestyle.
Diet and exercise are the most important aspect to control or loose weight.
Diet should contain adequate amount of minerals and vitamins with optimum calorie intake. You can use vegetables and fruits more. Avoid meat and fatty food.
Exercise is more important as to burn more calorie than the intake is the goal.
Walking or running 3 miles a day will suffice if you are working woman.

So your medicines are appropriate, just keep try to control weight.

Thanks for using healthcaremagic.
Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
