Suggest Treatment For Sciatica

my husband recently diagnosed with severe sciatica that radiates down rt leg. has seen pcp, and ortho. Rx d gabapentin and prednisone by PCP, Rx d mobic and muscle relaxant by ortho. ortho wants to get MRI. c/o numbness and tingling down rt leg into toes, sometimes in big toe and adjoining toe, sometimes into last 2 toes. c/o most of tingling underneath the toes. i ve also had him doing some stretching, but the only thing that helps the pain is to lie in the recliner, or if he s in the pool. this has now been going on for 11 days. what else can he try?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It may be due to sciatica.

For further assessment, I would suggest you to consult with spine surgeon for detailed clinical examination.

He may procure MRI back, nerve conduction studies after consultation.

For pain you can take tablet acetaminophen.

You may require tablet Pregabalin and multivitamin after consultation.

Do regular physical therapy.

In case of not getting relief you may require surgical intervention after surgeon consultation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam Kale
