Suggest Treatment For Severe Abdominal Pain And Cramps During Menstruation

I m on birth control but I m still having extremely painful cramps and jelly-textured black/red blood and I m scared I might have something serious. My period has always been like this since my first one when I was 14 I m 23 now and nothing has changed even when I took ibuprofen I was still rendered motionless it hurts to move sometimes and the cramps fell like what I imagined getting stabbed is like and when i grt up thick black blood pours out. Is any of this normal?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is quite common among young girls during menstruation and it is called as spastic dysmenorrhea. Drugs like mefenemic acid can be taken for pain relief. If symptoms persist better to consult a gynecologist and plan for an ultrasound scan.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
