Suggest Treatment For Severe Acid Reflux In A Hypertensive Person

I have high Blood pressure, I m overweight but not obese. I am 54 years old. I suffer from depression and other psychiatric symptoms and am on various medications. I snore. I have allergies and asthma that I had been treated for and over came in childhood but has now come back with a vengeance. I have a hiatal hernia and acid reflux which is controlled but still acts up if I m especially stressed. Lately I have been breathing noticeably heavy almost to the point I m snoring while I m awake. I used to be an avid exerciser but now have little energy or motivation. And when I have tried to work through my inertia and try to workout I can barely speak or catch my breath when I m exercising. In Tai Chi class I found that when I m bent over I start to have problems breathing. I used to lift weights and practice karate regularly. I d like to get back to it but like I said I have problems with catching my breath. Sometimes despite me taking my medication I may throw up because of acid reflux. Other times I may throw up because of coughing up phlegm and the contractions in my abdomen are so strong that I end up throwing up food. My voice is increasingly hoarse. Had a stress test. My heart is fine. I saw an ENT and he said that I was fine. Could there be some relationship between my bending, difficulty breathing, acid reflux and the restriction of my diaphragm and weak abdomenal muscles?

Hello,

Acid reflux will be the basic problem in your case.

As of now, you can try antacids like omeprazole or pantoprazole for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist you can consult a gastroenterologist and plan for an endoscopy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
