Suggest Treatment For Severe And Persistent Coughs

I am a 70 year old woman and have a had a cough for years. Sometimes I feel like I am coughing my guts out. I started taking Cheratussin Syp AC several years ago prescribed by my doctor. I only take it at night - 10 ML. I don t cough and sleep beautifully. I have found when I don t take it at night, I have trouble sleeping and wake up quite tired. Can this medicine cause this? Thank you.

Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

Cheratussin is a syrup which contains codeine and guaifenesin.

The codeine is an opiate that can help in improve the sleeping.

So, yes this syrup can also affect the sleep as a side effect.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
