Suggest Treatment For Severe Anxiety, Dry Mouth And Night Sweats

I have bee n taking effexor of a couple of years for anxiety...My doctor said it would also help with my night sweats and hot flashes....I am 64 yrs old i have fighting the hot flashes and sweats for over 10 yrs. I have not seen any improvement. I also have been trying to lose weight with a low carb diet plan by a dietician for year and have had little success....dry mouth and nasal passages most of the time... Could my meds be the culprit?

Hi,

Effexor (venlafaxine) is an antidepressant and generally it is well tolerated. Dry mouth and nasal passages may occur due to Effexor. Weight gain also occurs with it. You consult the physician again to revise the diagnosis as night sweating and hot flushes occur even after regular use of Effexor. He may shift to some other drug for your problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilyas Patel,
