Suggest Treatment For Severe Arthritic Pain In Shoulders

I have severe arthritis in both shoulders. I take Celebrex. My shoulders are being replaced next year. Right now the pain just keeps getting worse. I was given a prescription for tramadol. I did take it for several days and liked the pain relief yet I did not like how lethargic I felt. I do want the relief for the pain yet I do not want to feel sedated and unmotivated. Are there any other choices to help with this kind of pain? The pain is constant and never stops.

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

I have read your query and understand your concern.

As you have mentioned you have pain in your shoulder which is well diagnosed due to arthritis and you have no relief of pain from tramadol.

Here, I would like to know that whether you have any history of diabetes or thyroid illnesses or any injury to that joint.

The initial treatments for pain relief for arthritic shoulder pain.

1. Avoid repetitive overhead activities

2. Do not carry any heavy object or bag on affected shoulder or arm.

3. Apply ice packs for about 15 minutes twice or thrice daily.

4. If you have learned how to do shoulder exercises then continue with that it's could be effective .

5. Apply diclofenac based topical ointment which is more effective than paracetamol based.(available over the counter)

6. take combination pain killers like tablet Ultracet-P (acetaminophen and tramadol with paracetamol)which is a combination of three drugs and much more effective than any other single pain killers.

You can consult nearby doctor or orthopedician if still pain persists.

Hope this information will help you.

Thanks and Regards,
