General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If the pain is at the side of the vertebra then a muscle is very likely the cause of the pain and in this case, paracetamol and ibuprofen and physiotherapy are recommended.

If the pain in the lower back is right over the vertebra you may need an x-ray or MRI of the spine. The presence of numbness in the private area or any problem with urine or bowel control, if present, are other reasons to see your doctor and have examinations.

I hope this is helpful. I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
