Suggest Treatment For Severe Breathing Difficulties

I m experiencing a shortness of breath that seems to be getting worse. When I try walking for a short distance the breathing becomes worse. Climbing stairs really presents a problem for me. I was involved in the World Trade Center disaster and inhaled much of building residue as the buildings fell that day. I was eventually evacuated by boat after being trapped for about 6 hours in the buildings dust. I suspect that this could be the cause of my problem now

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, exposure to large dust particles over a long time could have inflammation of bronchioles in lung to cause progressive bronchitis. This may cause your problem. Consultation / investigations advised by a chest specialist would find severity of damage done by the disaster. I would suggest to get cardiac tests done including stress test, to exclude / fond coronary insufficiency and get treatment if needed. A cardiac check up by cardiologist would help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
