Suggest Treatment For Severe Chest Congestion And Ear Infection In A Child

Morning. My 6 year old son has been on two courses of Orolox syrup over the last month. Celestamine syrup was given with the second course. It was then found he had an inner ear infection and is currently on Prozef with cortisone. He has extreme mucous on his chest and still complaining of his ear. At 4am he woke and vomited and now has a fever of 38. Have given him a Voltage suppository. Can I give Celestamine syrup again to help break the heavy mucous. He last had it 2 weeks ago. Thank you. Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your child have symptoms of severe chest congestion and ear infection which seems to be due to Eustachian tube dysfunction and upper respiratory tract infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles , take steam twice a day and apply warm dry compresses to external ear . You should keep your ear dry until it gets alright , which is very important and cover your ear while bathing. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin at least for a week along with decongestants. Put Otogesic ear drops. You should go for audiometer testing as well to check hearing level. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis. Doctor may examine by otoscopic means to check level of infection.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
