Suggest Treatment For Severe Cold In An Elderly Person

My 86 year old father in law was feeling very cold in his extremities today and laid in a recliner for awhile with a heat blanket. When he tried to get up he had no strength in his legs and he fell. I laid him on the floor and took his vitals and warmed him with the blanket and he started to feel fine and got warm again. Could he have had a minor stroke?

Hello,

Firstly, noticing his age, he should take rest. Now, it is important to do some tests:

1. ECG
2. Keep a record of Blood Pressure; you can check this with your home based digital machine. The morning before leaving the bed, BP or Blood Pressure has to be checked.
3. Blood Test
4. Thyroid Function Test (T3, T4, TSH).

If he feels too much cold, please do the followings:

1. Paracetamol 500mg every 6 hour, if needed (if the temperature rises) or pain due to fall or something else.

2. Aspirin 100 mg orally Once a day every day for prevention of stroke.

But, I suggest having an ECG, as I feel this is most important. You should also give the vitals you saw.

I would also like to ask:

1. is there any pain in the left side of the chest?
2. is there any pain in the left hand or shoulder?

With the reports and answer, please post another question. Do not worry, already the preventive treatment has been started.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
