Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough After A Major Stoke

Hello, My father (60 years) of age had a major stroke (December 2015) that left him in a state where he cannot move his body except for some movement on his right arm and cannot speak. 6 months after the major stoke, he developed this cough. The cough is random and is very violent. The cough does produce lots of secretions via his trachea. I do have a video to show one of his coughing episodes and would love if someone would suggest some things to look for.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Should see lung specialist as soon as possible. As he cannot move his body it is common to get aspiration of salivary secretion and thus possible bronchitis or pneumonia.

Until you see the specialist, raise the head from shoulders to ease breathing.

Once again, should consult immediately with a pulmonologist (lung specialist) as soon as possible.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini,
