Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough And Fever

Hi I have been running a fever for 3 days now ranging from 101 - 103 . My other symptoms include a lot of pressure in my head...it is very painful say if I have to pick something up off the floori am coughing up a lot of junk from my lungs and from my nose. I do not have a sore throat nor did I have one. Should I be concerned. I find my self guzzling water and sleeping a lot. I have not taken anything for it because I usually try and fight my illnesses on my own...

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of severe cough and fever . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like upper respiratory tract infection or viral pharyngitis. Need not to worry. You should take throat lozenges to soothe throat. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test and CT scan to confirm the diagnosis and rule out strep throat . Doctor may prescribe anti viral drugs (acyclovir) or anti bacterial ( amoxicillin ) depending upon the diagnosis along with decongestant and expectorant . For now do warm saline gargles and take steam thrice a day . Doctor may also refer you to chest specialist for chest infection . Avoid taking spicy and sharp food. Avoid cold carbonated beverages.
