Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough And Nose Congestion

I ve had a chest cold that became a head cold. It s been 12 days and I m on the tail end. and I m on tail end. I m still coughing a lot and have a lot of mucus in my nose and throat for which I ve been taking Mucinex. This morning I woke up with discharge from my right eye. It s been tearing all day and now the tears have thickened and look like mucus. Is this typical or do I need to see my physician? Thank you, Cathy Baum

Emergency Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

After reading your post, I would suggest that you should get yourself clinically examined and investigated by an ENT specialist. Following investigations can be helpful:

1. Throat swab culture 2. Sputum examination 3. Complete Blood Count (CBC)

An antihistamine like Levocetrizine and steam inhalation will help in relief from your symptoms. Further medical management can be planned according to the reports of your investigations and according to the clinical evaluation done by your doctor.

I hope this is helpful to you.

Regards,
Dr. R A Singh
