Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough, Excess Mucus In The Throat And Hoarseness

I have a lot of phlegm, have been taking about 6 Mucinex (generic) per day. I cough a lot esp. if I haven t taken Mucinex for several hours. My voice was just a whisper Sun - Wed. now is raspy, scratchy. I am on allergy medication year round - Flonase 2 sprays each side once or twice a day and 1-2 Mucinex daily. I had allergy testing then 5 years of allergy shots. This has happened before that I lose my voice; usually lasting a week.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think you should make an appointment with your doctor because you may need antibiotics. Meantime I suggest you to breathe in the steam, use honey, drink fluids, and take a multivitamin supplement to boost your immune system.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Blerina Pasho, General & Family Physician
