Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough In An Elderly Person

I am 88 years old and have a cold which seems to get better but now I have developed a cough that doesnt allow me to sleep. I had taken tylenol and a cough medication but doesnt seem to help. I dont have a fever. All began a month ago that I fell and injured my foot, then I developed shingles without a rash and the doctors. Prescribed cortison and another medication for herps i recovered and contracted a cold that seemed to be over when I developed this cough. What can I do to get ride of all these symptoms?

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, steroids induced respiratory tract infection can be cause of the cough and at times dry cough may proceed after chest infection, and may persist for few weeks until complete healing.

Meanwhile local decongestants or lozenges chewing can help to provide relief. Ammonium chloride containing cough suppressant may also be helpful. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Hope I have answered your query.
