Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a severe cough about 3 weeks ago and my epileptic seems out of whack since. I sometimes have to tilt my head back to get my airway open again if having a big cough. Had a week of antibiotics, is gradually getting better but concerned about it as still there, any advice? Thanks!
Severe cough since three weeks is indicative that you are not getting treated. You are suggested to visit ER, get clinically examined & assessed. Severe cough is commonly due to COPD, Asthma, RTI, GERD. Your treating doctor will tell you to do CBC, swab & sputum test. X-Ray chest, CT OR MRI.
Your treatment will depend upon the severity of infection detected. You may be treated by oral or inject-able antibiotics. Since your cough is chronic it may take time to get well. In the meantime you can take non sedating antihistamines, Levocetrizine, one SOS when needed. For nasal blocks you can use Otrivin nasal drops.
If you are detected with asthma, asthma inhalers may be effective.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
