Hello, I am 38 years old, 285 lbs. and have have been coughing due to a cold for about 6 weeks now. On June 4th I was in a car accident where I rolled my car 3 times and broke my ankle as well as several other issues. I did this because I had a coughing fit and lost consciousness. I was hospitalized for 5 days and have since been home having the same problem. No one will help and tell me what it is, why it occurs, and if there will be any long term problems.
Thanks for your question on HCM. In my opinion you should consult pulmonologist and get done chest x ray and pulmonary function test (PFT). Since you have accident we have to rule out lung pathology. Chronic infection can also cause chronic cough. So get done chest x ray. If you have bronchitis than it can be picked up by PFT. So consult pulmonologist and discuss these things with him.
