Suggest Treatment For Severe Diarrhea And Vomiting In A Child

my grandson 7 years old has has about 3 weeks of diarrhea & some vomiting on and off with some accidents at school he has been dealing with this way too long & his parents finally took him to the dr yesterday with an X-ray done with no neg results and blood test today?? no fecal done?? today his sister of 6 years was sent home after an accident of diarrhea also and she did have a bout of upset stomach about 10 days ago no fever just urgency to the bathroom today the 7 year old seem more lethargic as a grandparent i am very concerned

Hi,

I suggest you give ORS (oral rehydration solution) immediately and take them for a stool test.

Give a lot of fluid. Don't give any antibiotics until stool culture is taken. Don't give them milk either.

After you give stool samples start them on Metronidazole.
