Suggest Treatment For Severe Dizziness

My mom is 81 and woke up this morning w acute dizziness. Overall, she is in a good to very good medical condition. OTC, Dramamine was available at CVS and I gave her two pills. Is there a better OTC medicine that I should consider for her. Or, should she just go to her doctor or an ENT as a next step? Thanks!

Hello,

You don't know. At 81 the severe possibilities of stroke, heart attack, or even just a UTI that is going out of control cannot be ruled out, so ER. If not immediately fatal, all of the serious issues will be basically fixable with prompt medical attention.

So, in general, there would be two large groups of dizzy people: low blood pressure versus ear issues and they present very differently.

The blood pressure is more like fainting and more with standing, the ear is with turning of the head ESPECIALLY while lying flat and is more like room spinning. But you can't wait on the issue in an 81 yr old.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
