Suggest Treatment For Severe Ear Infection With Vertigo
Last year I got an ear infection. Went to an ENT and put a tube in my ear. Now I am 65 and NEVER had vertigo before. The neurologist told me it was the tube put in my ear. So they gave me exercises to do and after 1 1/2 weeks it went away! The same time almost the exact day (Memorial weekend) I got it again -- stayed home from work, but this time is was very minimal and I was on meds bc once again -- ear infection. This time I can get up, walk around and no dizziness but as soon as I do the head exercises there is a very slight vertigo -- so I stopped doing the exercises but it feels like its coming on but only does if I do the exercises. I have finished the meds for my ear infection and it seems to be a lot better. But I am afraid to try the exercises in fear it will indicate a slight vertigo. Should I go back to the ENT doctor or just STOP doing the exercises. Kathy
• Vertigo is a symptom, rather than a condition itself and treatment depends on right cause. You should see your GP if you have persistent signs of vertigo or it keeps coming back.
Causes of vertigo may include benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, migraines – severe headaches, labyrinthitis – an inner ear infection. Medicines, such as prochlorperazine and some antihistamines, can help in the early stages or most cases of vertigo.
Also, we recommend: do simple exercises to correct your symptoms, sleep with your head slightly raised on two or more pillows, avoid bending down to pick up items, avoid extending your neck – for example, while reaching up to a high shelf.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
