Suggest Treatment For Severe Emphysema

hi, I am a caregiver. My patient is 83 years old and has severe emphysema. She was hospitalized 2 years ago and came home with oxygen and breathing treatments 4 times a day. She is always tired and doesn t do much on her own. She just had bloodwork done and her cholesterol is very high. Does the high cholesterol; have anything to do with the emphysema? I don t know if shes near the end stages. How will I know?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Consult a pulmonologist and get evaluated.

Only conservative management possible now.

Bronchodilators and nebulisation are the mainstays of the treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
