Hello,

Stress can cause tight muscles in the shoulders and neck, which often leads to tension headaches. Dehydration and lack of proper diet or hunger may trigger tension headache or migraine. Other medical conditions that may cause headache are alcohol intake, caffeine withdrawal, harsh weather conditions, pollution- smoke, dust, pollution, hormonal factors, etc.

Lack of sleep is another cause of severe headache. Always take quality sleep. Stay well hydrated, do not skip meals, take meals at proper time. Maintain good posture so that the neck & back is not strained. Stay away from emotional stress and depression. You can take acetaminophen or naproxen, one stat when needed to get relief from discomfort.

Stay away from oily junk food, strong smell, exposure to sunlight for long hours and unnecessary exhaustion / exertion. Get clinically examined and get Imaging tests, blood analysis, etc., done to rule out medical conditions like tumors, sinusitis or any other pathology causing similar symptoms. You will be accordingly given conservative treatment or recommended surgery.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
