Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a severe headache during the night - it woke me twice (12.30 & 3.00), when I got up as 6am I had acute nausea and thought I was about to vomit, I was staggering and crashed into a table before going back to bed, my partner said my speech was slightly slurred. I slept til 10 and have less of a headache but still have residual nausea and am really tired. Is this likely to be migraine? I could smell burnt toast. I have had day time aura migraines a couple of times a few years ago (pixellated vision).
Migraine causes headaches with neurological symptoms (smelling strange odors, for instance) and also with nausea and vomiting. It may be that the headache you had is a migraine, given that you have had migraines before. On the other hand, if headaches happen at night again, you may need to see your doctor to make sure as generally, migraine should not wake up the patient at night and other more important conditions should be ruled out if the patient regularly wakes up at night with headache.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
