Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. My left ear has a moderately severe Hearing loss developed gradually over the last 20 odd years. Air conduction of more than 80 db can be heard but sounds of say 70 db or 60 db can not be heard in PTA. Bone conduction is good and absolutely normal and can hear 20db or 30db tones. My right ear is again perfectly normal. Is there any treatment for my left ear so as to improve its hearing upto 30 db? Hearing aids are not acceptable.
There can me many causes for hearing loss. Thus it is difficult to answer this question till your detail history and some investigation are done. At your age it may be chronic suppurative otitis media if your ear is discharging and progressive hearing loss. But to rule out other diseases and to reach the near diagnosis you may go for: 1.Otoscopic examination of ear 2. Pure tone audiometry and 3. Impedance audiometry if your ear is non discharging.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
