Suggest Treatment For Severe Hip Pain In An Elderly Person
I am a male, age 71, good health, moderately active. Severe pain in lower hip (alternates sides), for past 6 months. Occurs every day but began happening at much less frequency. Can occur after a few short steps, not consistent or predictable. Pain has become almost breathtaking and I periodically break out in a sweat. I have had X-rays but no problem is apparent. Over the counter pain relievers have not helped.
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Hip pain at your age may be caused by hip osteoarthritis or any other form of arthropathy.Treatment options for this condition may include different lines of pain drugs depending on pain intensity, myorelaxants, steroid shots occasionally, physiotherapy and in some cases, surgery. Many of these options may be used together for better results. I will suggest you meet a Rheumatologist who is an expert in this domain for evaluation and management. In the mean time, you may try the following: -Take a pain drug like aceclofenac -A myorelaxant like miorel -See a Physiotherapist for massage -Have your weight under control Hope this will help Best regards
