Suggest Treatment For Severe Hip Pain

19 years old, plays lacrosse at collegiate level. Pain in the hip area came the week of april 18th. Sat out of practice the week of april 25th, played in last game on the 30th but in pain to run, could not sprint. went to trainers the week the pain came...trainers said I strained the hip flexor and gave me stretches to do and heated and iced for the ending weeks of practice. It is painful to lift my leg up if I am laying on my back. Can not lift knee up to my chest while standing straight. I came home from school the first week of may and have not ran since the last game. Pain is still here and they told me it would get better since I am not playing anymore. I do need it to get better so I can eventually get back to running so I can keep in shape and prepare for the fall season. Should I see a doctor since the pain is still occurring? please let me know thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The symptoms seem to be related to overuse of the hip.
I suggest using anti inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the pain.
I also suggest to avoid movements that can trigger the symptoms and use cold compresses for local application.
If the symptoms continue, you should see an Orthopedist and get evaluated.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
