Suggest Treatment For Severe Itchiness In The Vagina

Hi. My vagina has been irritated for the last couple of days. When I wiped there was a brownish substance. I've never been sexually active, I just started birth control 3 weeks ago and I clean vulva/vagina with warm water and towel. What could be causing this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI,
I understand your concern.
The itching of vagina can be due to
- various causes like altered vaginal Ph due to antibiotics, diabetes, cosmetics.
- Bad genital hygiene,
- Vaginal infections ( bacterial/ fungal )
- Oral contraceptives may increase vaginal secretions, making it more damp , thus facilitating fungal infection
Consultation of a gynecologist, detailed physical examination, vaginal swab test ( if needful)- will be followed by specific treatment ( antibiotic/ anti fungal drugs orally along with local ointments )

Thanks.
