Suggest Treatment For Severe Itching In Arms, Hands And Behind Knees

my 84 yr old mother is scratching herself raw. i was with her a month ago for 10 days. I applied hydrocodone ointment every two hours. to her arms, hands and behind her knees. Her MD changed up the ointment. she is much worse and her arms are a mess. My brother is with her now. I suggest pressing to get her seen by a dermatologist. she has been troubled by this itching for several months. what else can we do for he until she sees the derm?

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe itching in arms, hands and behind knees . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query hepatitis , kidney disease , contact dermatitis , eczema , obstructive biliary disease , scabies and sunburn . I would suggest you to apply cold compresses to affected site , take over the counter anti histamine like benadryl and maintain personal hygiene . If condition doesn't get well then consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may skin patch test , blood test , liver and kidney test to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe immunosuppressants along with anti inflammatory crotamiton ,ivermectinor may refer you to nephrologist for kidney or gastroenterologist for liver disease .
