Suggest Treatment For Severe Itching In The Buttocks

Well, I ve been experiencing a lot of itchiness in my butt. It is so irritable that I will scratch it until it bleeds because the itch just will not go away. Then when I poop, it burns because it is raw skin on the inside whre the poop is passing through. Also, I ve been having a lot of problems with staying awake during the day. I am 19, in college, and sleep between 6 and 8 hours a night. But I will come back from classes and fall asleep during the middle of the day for anywhere from 2 to 5 hours. Even after sleeping 10-12 hours a night on a weekend, I will still come back from lunch and sleep for 3 or 4 hours. It s beginning to become quite a nuissance

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

I read very carefully your question as saw your photos.

It looks like a fungal infection. For that reason, you need to avoid using polysporin, because it is an antibiotic and most probably that is why it is getting worse.

Instead, you need to use an anti-fungal cream, like ketoconazole, econazole or terbinafine.

If worse or not better consider seeing a dermatologist, who may give a prescription with oral antifungal drugs, which are given in the case when the infected area is too big or is not getting better.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein,
General Surgeon
