Suggest Treatment For Severe Knee Pain

hi i've been experiencing knee pain for the last six months, went to a doctor and had xrays done and the xrays didn't tell the doctor much except for a bone growth or a broken something 8cm above the knee joint which never bothered me but the artucular cartilage hurts the most when i walk, have trouble sleeping at night b/c of unconfortable feeling. hurts anytime i walk for more than 15 mins straight. what is the problem
