Suggest Treatment For Severe Knee Pain

My mother is suffering severe pain in knee. And the whole legs get heated up when there is a pain. When reported to doctor, they said there is gap in knee muscle which is causing the problem. Is there any solution for this problem as i cant see here suffering everday
