Suggest Treatment For Severe Leg Pain And Sore Throat

My boyfriend is a carpenter and on Tuesday his legs started hurting really bad. Yesterday he was in so much pain in his legs still. I was thinking maybe it was a pinched nerve in his lower back so I rubbed his lower back a lot last night and he said it helped with the pain a lot. We both went to bed and he woke up in the middle of the night shaking beacause he was so cold and his legs were numb and in extremem pain again. He was having cold and hot sweats all night and coughing a lot too. He woke up with a really bad sore throat and was in tears this morning on his way to work because his legs hurt so bad... should he go to a chiropratror or a doctor?
