Hello -

If you took the I pill within 24 hours as you described, it should have been effective. That said, there is a slight rate of failure, so it would be worthwhile to check a home pregnancy test now. At this point, the home pregnancy test should be accurate.

I pill is a high dose of progestin which is similar to progesterone, the predominant hormone in pregnancy. So taking this can cause your own hormonal cycle to be out of whack, make periods come earlier, later, and be different length and amount of flow than usual.

As the I pill should only be used in emergencies, because of it having these undesirable effects, I strongly recommend getting on a regular form of contraception. Examples of these are the Pill (which you would take daily), and an IUD. The Mirena IUD is nice because it lasts for years, doesn't require much of you (don't have to remember to take a pill!), and in many women, decreases the amount of menstrual bleeding. There are hormonal implants you can consider too, but that would not be the first option to consider, because they can make your periods a bit irregular or you can have spotting.

But first - do take a home pregnancy test and then you won't have to be wondering.
