Suggest Treatment For Severe Neck Pain While On Ibuprofen And Levomenthol
Hi, Dr. Rynne: I have been using a topical gel with 50 mg of ibuprofen and 30 mg of levomentola (per 1gm) with great success for neck pain and relief. I bought a tube of this in Croatia and am trying to get some more. The US brands do not produce the same effect as this gel. Any idea for a substitiute . Voltaren Gel (diclofenac) seems to do nothing and it is very expensive...

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
You can use Relaxil ointment/Ibuprofen ointment + Vicks vapor over the counter. It seems you have chronic pain... which can be due to cervical spondylitis... pain might be relieved with ointment, but specific care needs to be taken (like physiotherapy) for long-term relief. Please get it investigated by x-ray/MRI & consult orthopedic doctor if indicated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale,
General & Family Physician
