Suggest Treatment For Severe Neck Pain

Yesterday I suddenly became unable to turn or nod my head without severe neck pain. In fact all my head and shoulder movements became very painful. I am an 85 years old male in otherwise good health. Can you please say if these pains can be cured, or are they the symptoms of a worse problem?

Hi,

There can be various reasons for your pain. The most common is muscle strain which may be associated with with abnormal posture during sleep or work. However, it can also be due to cervical disc diseases (neck-related problems) or vitamin deficiencies. We also need to rule out heart problems and problems associated with the brain.

I feel that you maintain a proper posture, take heat therapy, and take a balanced diet. You can even take some pain medication. If however the symptoms still persist then go for some investigations like complete blood count, vitamin d levels, X-ray neck, ECG, and MRI.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
