Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have undergone a bone reconstruction surgery about three months ago and I have to wear external fixators (pins screwed into the bone and clamped externally to a rod). I change the bandages quite often myself and haven t had any problems but recently I have developed an infection at one of the pin sites. First it started as sharp shooting pain, then White-greenish pus vraiable fever of 37.2-38.2 during day and night. I started changing bandages 2-3 times a day and a course of broad range antibiotics, Ciprocinal. There was an improvement after about 5 days so I stoped the antibiotics. 3 days later the infection returned , this time with a yellowish-brown color and severe pain. I am taking phenoxymethylpenicilin 0000 but there seems to be little improvement. There is still pus, fever and pain. Could this be a MRSA type infection? Thanks
I am so sorry about this infection. You need to get this infection site evaluated and managed accordingly by the team coordinating your care. There is a great risk of possible bone infection in the form of osteomyelitis is nothing is done. Follow up with your doctors and be sure to have an infectiologist on borad. MRSA can only be diagnosed after doing a culture of a tissue sample taken from this area. Follow up with your medical team and they would provide answers to this.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more clarifications and information if need be.
