Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain And Swelling In The Finger

I am a 57 yr. old female, and I feel saturday nigh while I was walking to my kitchen, I am a Veteran, so I went to the VA Hospital and they took xrays and told me that they didnt think my forearm was broken (right arm)I was sent back home with ibuprophen. Sunday when I woke up I was in severe pain and my hand and fingers were swollen, I couldnt move my arm and if I did...it was extreme pain...my arm was cold to the touch, and is still cold to the touch right now, fingers are swollen and the right hand also, but most of all....Im in severe pain.....I actually start crying cause it hurts so bad...could this be a fracture that was not seen by xray, maybe a hairline fracture? What else can I do?

Hello,

As per your history, it may be due to fracture.

For that you can do X Ray after orthopedician consultation. Till then you can take tablet Ibuprofen.

Treatment mainly depends upon the underlying condition. In case of fracture you may require surgical intervention.

Restrict your movements. Keep your self hydrated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale, General & Family Physician
